Cool Cape May Guesthouse

Entire Guesthouse in North Cape May, NJ

Up to 2 Guests • 1 bedroom • 1 bed • 1 bath

About the Space:

Come & visit our little beach cottage to experience an "Old Jersey Shore" style holiday in your personal beach cottage getaway. We are located in North Cape May, close to the the Delaware Bay with its white sugar sand and turquoise waters. Our cozy cottage is reminiscent of the old shore lifestyle, preserving the charm of yesterday but with all the modern conveniences. Our guesthouse is a place to relax and get away from it all.

Our place is located strategically in North Cape May for day trips to downtown Cape May or a ferry ride to Delaware. You can also go boating, sailing, or fishing. Travel easily to many interior state parks. Enjoy the lively nightlife of Cape May County. Gourmet restaurants abound; galleries and quaint beach shops are a car, bike, or trolley ride away.

Our guesthouse is its own little house next to the main cottage. It has one bedroom with a queen bed, living room, and full bath. We also have a small kitchenette stocked with coffee, tea, coffee maker, microwave, fridge with a freezer, dishes, silverware, and glasses.

The cottage was fully-renovated in 2015 and got a new bathroom in summer of 2019. It offers guests central heat/air, a fire pit, the best outdoor shower, a bicycle built for two for a leisurely ride to the bay, and beach towels & chairs for a lazy day at the beach. We have everything to make your holiday memorable. No high-rises here, just peace and privacy.

Our favorite time in Cape May is September and October. You might think that's strange — Cape May is a seashore resort; the season ends after August, right? — but hey, us locals know this is really the best time. No waits at restaurants, beaches are practically empty, and the water temperature is the warmest the ocean has been all summer. The weather is still lovely, too! It feels like you have the town to yourself, and we charge less, too. Give the shoulder season a try — you won’t regret it!

Guest Access:

Our cottage is its own separate building on our property next to the main cottage. You have a private deck with walls around it. We don’t use our yard when we have guests, so it’s very private and gated to feel safe. The yard is lush with plants and trees. Guests say it reminds them of Key West.

Other Things to Note:

  • Our street floods really bad on heavy rain, so we might give you a heads up to move the car to a better location (just a few doors down from our house).
  • If you remember to do so, please cover the outside couches with the provided covers — stored in the side table — to keep them dry. You'll appreciate it when the rain stops, as it takes days for them to properly dry.
  • Our trash cans are at the gate on the right side of the house. They are blue, but they are not the recycling receptacles. There is a smaller, lower-to-the-ground can for that. Glass, metal, and paper/cardboard go into the smaller receptacle for recycling.

Thank you!

What Our Guesthouse Has to Offer:

The Location:

North Cape May is just a couple of miles outside the beautiful Victorian seaside resort town of Cape May.

Getting Around:

We are about a ten minute drive to beautiful downtown Victorian Cape May. That's where the restaurants, shopping, and ocean beached are located. Bring quarters or use the ParkMobile app to pay for parking (the downfall of the shore).

If you are drinking, we usually have good local coverage for Uber and other car services. The New Jersey Transit bus station is just a block from the Historic Washington Street Mall, and there is a stop just two blocks from our place on the 552 route. If none of these work out and you're stuck in town, I don’t want you to drive under the influence — I’ll come and find you!

We are in the working class, weekenders part of town. Historically, most of the cottages like ours were just summer bungalows that didn’t even have heat. The owners would close them up at the end of the summer and the houses would sit empty until the owners returned the next summer season.

Our street is probably a 50/50 split, with half living here year-round while the rest are seasonal. What most people don’t know is our Delaware Bay beach — about 8 to 10 blocks away — is like a hidden gem that only we locals know about. Because the beach is relatively unknown to vacationers, it’s never really crowded.

We have the best sunsets in New Jersey right at the end of our block! It’s really magical at that time: everyone comes out and walks down; bring a blanket and drink and feel the day slip away as you sit on the beach gazing at the sun setting over the bay.

Local amenities and activities include:

  • We have an Acme supermarket for all your grocery needs just a few blocks away.
  • About two blocks away, we have a great local bagel shop.
  • Behind us is the Red Brick Ale House & Grille: it doesn’t look like much but has great burgers — and be sure to get an orange crush drink!
  • Walk right around the corner, and you'll find Uncle Bill's Pancake House. If you're not from NJ or PA, be sure try the pork roll — it’s a shore thing.
  • Three blocks away is 5 West Pub: another good drinking and dining spot.
  • Take the bikes out for a ride, but remember to bring the locks.
  • Go to Mike's Bayshore Cafe and get the fried tomato. Jersey has the best tomatoes!
  • Head on down to the Cape May-Lewes Ferry — they have a bar and you can sit outside and watch the ferries come in from Delaware. Wednesday nights at 5:00p.m. they have live music. Take a bottle of wine along with the beach chairs to hang on the ferry’s grass and have a listen.

And that's not even including any of the amazing shops, dining, or activities you'll find when you go into town and explore Cape May itself!

About Your Host:

I'm a friendly, low-key kind of guy from the East coast. I love art, music, the beach, biking, and my kayak. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, and living in this beautiful seashore resort.

I relax during my off time in the winter months in the Florida Keys.

Being a host with AirBnB, it's always fun to share with others who are having their own travel adventures.

During Your Stay:

We try to give you your space. We keep our blinds down to avoid disturbing you, but we hope you leave yours open to enjoy the day and make the most of the deck.

We work all summer long — we have 3 stores and a factory where we make our products — so you might not even see us the whole stay. But that doesn’t mean that we aren’t around to answer questions or fix a problem.

We are always a text or ring away!

I'm an AirBnB SuperHost!
