11. What is the recommended way to burn your candles for optimal results?

For optimal results, follow these steps:

  • Always trim the wick to between 1/8" and 1/4" before lighting. Not just for the first burn, but every time you light the candle.
  • The first burn is the most important: burn your candle until the wax has melted to an even depth across the candle. This prevents "tunneling" later. You'll want to repeat this each time you burn the candle.
  • Don't burn your candle for longer than about four (4) hours at a time.
  • Never leave your candle burning unattended.
  • Keep your lit candle away from drafts/moving air. Even a clean-burning candle can throw soot if the combustion process keeps getting disturbed.
  • Keep your lit candle out of the reach of kids and pets.
  • To avoid smoking when you extinguish the candle, use the lid, a snuffer, or a wick-dipper.
  • When you extinguish your candle, wait at least two hours before re-lighting it.
  • Stop burning your candle when it reaches about 1/2" of wax remaining in the bottom.

14. What makes your candles eco-friendly or sustainable?

Here's a brief list of what makes our candles more eco-friendly and sustainable than some of the other options currently on the market:

Our candles are made with 100% American-grown soybean wax.
Beyond the "Made in America" aspect, this also means that they have less embodied carbon emissions — the emissions associated with the production, manufacturing, transportation, and distribution of goods. Not that soy grown overseas is necessarily bad, but there are typically far more emissions involved in transporting something halfway around the world for processing and distribution than just moving it around in one country.
We use recyclable aluminum and glass vessels.
The ability to recycle the candle vessel after use helps divert waste out of landfills.
We use lead-free, natural cotton wicks.
This results in fewer toxins being released into the air when the candle burns, but also means less use of finite mineral resources and less environmental degradation from the mining of those mineral resources.

15. Are your candles vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes, our candles are vegan and cruelty-free. We do no animal testing at all, and there's a whole blog post about our animal testing stance here.

17. Do your candles emit smoke or soot when burning?

No, our candles are clean-burning and do not emit smoke or soot when burning.

18. Do you offer subscription services for candles?

At the moment, we do not have a specifically candle-oriented subscription service. However, there is a candle in each of our Scent of the Month subscription boxes!

19. Are your candles safe for use around pets or children?

Yes, our candles are safe to burn around pets and children, but you should keep them well out of the reach of said pets and children to avoid catastrophic accidents or injury.
