Frankincense and myrrh are resins — a dried, concentrated tree sap — from trees of the genus Boswellia (frankincense) and Commiphora (myrrh). These trees are common to Somalia and Ethiopia. Both are in the botanical family Burseruceae — commonly called the incense tree family, and for good reason. The resins have long been used for the making of incense and perfumes which were used in some of the oldest palaces and temples in that region of the world. Babylon, Egypt, Persia, Uruk, Israel... the history is vast and as rich as the fragrance itself.
Most famous to those of us in the western world due to the biblical references — the resins were reported to have been gifted to the newborn Jesus by the three wise men — Frankincense & Myrrh have a deep, aromatic fragrance which is unique to this specific blend. Frankincense is a sweeter and warmer smell, while Myrrh is more earthy and bitter. They strike an amazing balance, and we've captured it in this soap for you to enjoy.
According to biblical mythology, three wise men appeared at the birth of Jesus and presented him with gifts. Two of those gifts were resins of frankincense and myrrh. It's one of my favorite fragrance combos, and this is one of the best-smelling frankincense & myrrh soaps I've ever tried.
